What Makes Us Overeat
May 28th, 2010Dealing with the eating habit usually means dealing with an emotion or two, as most people eat emotionally ie when we are board, feel a little flat, a partner is away.
Eating large meals can be out of habit, older people for instance may no longer need a large meal as they no longer use or need the same amount of energy add to that growing up being told not to waste food because of the war and rationing, younger generations get the starving children in the world, the clean plate club, cant leave the table until you have eaten your dinner etc when logically it is out of our hands, and in our stomach or in the bin it’s still wasted as we are eating or throwing what we don’t actually need, the downside of eating what we don’t need is it is stored in our bodies as fat and we create a habit of eating unnecessary large meals.
However when young, our metabolic rate is higher and providing we are eating a healthy meal with fresh vegetables meats and fruit we can process most of it through active lifestyles and exercise and work, the sugars are metabolised more effectively as they are natural our bodies are designed to work using what nature has provided.
Now of course we have processed foods which contain high levels of salt and sugar and other preservatives and chemicals even the “healthy” options, of course our bodies don’t process these manufactured sugars and preservatives so well, in fact it takes more energy for the stomach to process sugar then the natural sugars, as we run on carbohydrate and glucose pectin which are pre-packed for us by nature in the form of fruit, vegetables and cereal crops.
So when we deal with these habits our clients tend to eat healthier food enjoying the flavours missing from the processed foods.
